just an ordinary Wednesday

Well, it's been a week of evenings out for Steve, Mostly work related, but after two days alone, I'm trying to think of something fun to do tonight. Now, I can only do so much fun~ two littles will still need to be put to bed at 7 and Crispin has a science test tomorrow on "the frog" which means my evening will probably consist of helping him study. So what's been happening?? Mostly "the usual"...not a lot of crafting or homeschooling but just keeping up with the day to day. I think my laundry has not been so backed up in ages!! Most days, I'm just sitting back and being thankful I get to be this girl's Mum.
Cause while she's almost never still, can be demanding and loud about it, and cries at the drop of a hat.....she's so much fun. We play kitties almost all day long, she laughs more than she cries and she brings joy to my life. You never know what will happen when you spend the day with Fiona. :o)
And that suits me just fine.

Snow Day!

Happy Thursday!

It`s been cold here for the past week with temperatures hovering around the freezing 0C mark. Tuesday we had a little skiff of snow....just enough to play in for a moment and it melted by the afternoon. Streets were icy and dangerous...so much so that C missed his usual tuesday evening out. By that point, they`d blocked off our neighbourhood as there were so many accidents on the side streets around us. Wednesday, we woke up to snow falling steadily outside and a nasty wind. Sure enough, school was cancelled and they were calling for 10+ centimeters of snow to fall before noon. We went outside in the morning to shovel the walk and play a bit but the wind was so vicious it drove us back inside where we drank hot chocolate, read and some of us played on the Wii for a little bit. Here`s what it looked like out the window.

And the railings in the back....you can see how much snow we got in only a few hours!

here's what we did while waiting for it to calm down outside...

A little playing

a little Lego building....

some cheeping...

Finally after lunch, we got to go up the street to the park to get in a little tobogganing before dinner!! At least 2 people went tobogganing and 2 of us just played in the snow covered park.

A perfect snow day!!

Today it is business as usual though with an added extra layer of whiteness outside. Lovely to look at and play in on the way to school this morning! Be back soon :)

Portrait of a Rainy Day

It's a monsoon style day here on the West Coast. It's been kind of a Novemberish winter this year....lots of rain and wind with a few colder sunny days thrown in for good measure. I'm craving real Winter here and I'm not sure if it will even happen this year. Just one good snowfall would be fantastic! Today has been pouring down rain...I have never seen it this heavy before and so hard that you are soaked to the skin within minutes. As usual, I was on the way out of the library when it all really started. Poor Fiona was soaked (even in the stroller with the cover down) but thankfully the library bag protected our stash of library books. This afternoon has been a good day to stay in and do puzzles, play inside ball and bake cookies. In a bit, we'll head outside again to pick up the boys from school. Here's a few pictures from our week....

It was a coffee kind of Christmas this year. My mum and stepdad got us the Keurig, which Steve absolutely loves. I like it too but drip coffee and I aren't friends right now. (or let's say it and my body aren't!!) In my stocking this year was a new Bodum. I love it and have had a few great cups of coffee from it already! The Keurig has been a great find for Crispin who loves making packet hot chocolate and can do so using it.

What C was busy with over Christmas break....lots of books!! He gulped down How to Steal a Dragon's Sword (newest book) and then proceeded to re-read the other two he has. A Wrinkle in Time is our newest evening read aloud. It's a bit slower starting to it hasn't grabbed him as much but he's interested.

The "girls" on the couch....they are both "sick" and Maiya looks like she's ready for Narnia! They're getting alot more play these days as F is growing up and more interested in larger dolls.

Here she is....I caught her eating rice crackers and watching a quick youtube dollie video with Jessa. She wasn't overly impressed with me taking pics either~ as I'm sure you can tell!

Our view out the window for most of the day today....rainy and cold. Blustery wind with occasional peeks of sun through the clouds. We even saw a brief rainbow on the way home from the library.

I'm getting somewhat into a new year routine. I always re-evaluate in January to see what is and isn't working well. We need a definite library day (the fines this autumn were a little much!!) and I need to decide on a day for a weekly shop. we've tried Saturday and Monday so far this school year and neither is working well. Saturday works the best of the two though as I can go without children. I'm back to menu planning...though it would help if children would go to bed earlier so I can actually do so. F has been pretty clingy lately though it seems to be wearing off again which helps as otherwise I can't even sit down to type/think/make shopping lists without her on my lap.

I'm off to make a travel mug of something hot to take with me on the rainy walk up to school. Be back soon!
